Everybody’s Busy
Whether you’re developing your career, launching your business, or just trying to grind through some hours at your desk, we all have so much work to do. It really seems like it’s never-ending. And with that comes a dangerous pitfall – there is never a better time to look for an excuse than there is when we’re busy.
But I have a secret for you, folks:
Everybody’s busy.
Let’s use me as an example today. I am busy. Everything going on in ACEville has got me swamped up to my ears. I have this amazing business to run, a team that depends on me for their livelihoods, my phone is ringing off the hook – but I also have a whole other side to being busy, called “two children under ten.” It would be incredibly easy for me to just say to my team “Hey, I’m not going to make it in to lead the meeting today. I’m just too busy.”
And the same goes for all of you out there. I understand that some of you are at the dealership six days a week, putting 60+ hours in. I understand that some of you get off of work and go straight to the basement to figure out how you’re going to make this amazing business idea you have work. You have families, you have kids, you have mothers you want to spend time with.
That’s not to say that you need to forego one to have the other – not at all. what I’m saying is have your cake and eat it too, and if you can’t eat it quite yet, you need to at least set the table.
There are seasons in everyone’s lives where certain things will need to fall by the wayside in the name of creating your life and your income. I find it very convenient how the same people say “I just can’t take on another project, I’m way too busy.” are the same folks who always manage to squeeze out those few hours a week to get down to the bar with their friends.
Instead of trying to make excuses as to why you can let certain areas of your business of your career and your development suffer, at the end of the day, you must accept that if you want to create exceptional results for yourself, it’s going to require exceptional action.
Now, don’t get me wrong: there is going to be conflict. Whether that conflict is taking great amounts of action in your career during a difficult period with your family, or something as simple as telling your pals that you really can’t make it tonight, it will show up. The point is that every iota of energy you spend complaining about how busy you are is another iota of energy you could be using to fix it.
You could spend that time building a funnel that’s going to give you a passive revenue stream and free up the five hours you’d be spending chasing cold leads down next week. You could spend that time creating a strict schedule that’s going to allow you an extra forty minutes every evening to spend with your kids.
I want all of you to seriously consider this message. Everybody’s busy. Everybody’s got things going on in their lives. Everybody could easily make excuses as to why they aren’t where they want to be, or even trying to get there.
Stop grabbing for the easy out of “I’m busy” and start swimming for the life preserver of being proactive.
And with that being said, I need to wrap this blog up.
…I’m just so busy.
