Patience Is A Virtue.
We’ve all heard this before, and that always sounds good coming from the lips of somebody who doesn’t understand what we’re impatient about. But, as much as human beings hate to hear it, it really is the truth.
I wanted to speak about patience today because I know how many of you are taking new actions and new approaches in your careers. You’re taking in a lot of the information that’s available out in the marketplace, you’re taking extraordinary actions, and just like every human being, you’re wondering – when is it going to pop? When is the victory going to show up? When is all of this work, all of this time, all of this energy that I’m pouring out going to pay off?
And this is where patience arrives – the message is simple.
It is not for you to determine when your breakthrough will show up.
That is the one thing that will never be laid out in front of you. Never. And let’s be real – it’s a huge part of the beauty of this journey you’re on. It’s almost like a treasure hunt. And the only important thing for you to understand is that a disciplined set of actions taken on a consistent basis can and will guarantee results.
Think about yourself, for example. If you’re anything like me – or frankly anyone else in the world – you’ve experienced failure before. Now, I want you to go back to those examples you might have in your head and I want you to ask yourself:
Did the actual opportunity fail? Or is it possible that you gave up?
Because in my opinion, and my experience, all of these successes that you haven’t experienced yet are not a byproduct of the idea, but of the approach.
And believe me when I tell you – I know exactly how frustrating this is. Stepping out to take action, to create these amazing things in your life, and realizing that every inch of it is going to be hard-fought and hard-won is a rude awakening when you first begin, and too often when it doesn’t happen right away, people throw their hands up in the air and say “Well, I tried.”
Now, I’m sure there are a few of you sitting there rolling your eyes a little bit and saying “Yeah, sure, Al. Easy for you to say.” But if this thought enters your mind when you’re looking at people who have arrived where you want to be, I want you to remember: I’m in the position that I’m in today because there were countless times when I couldn’t have even considered taking a single day off. The grind was all that mattered, because I knew that by putting my head down, putting one foot in front of the other, and by taking a disciplined set of actions on a consistent basis that one day I would be here, reaching out to lend a hand to all of the amazing entrepreneurs out there who needed a boost.
You hear me say it constantly, folks: sight is the greatest enemy of vision. Forget about what you’re looking at today. Forget about where you are exactly today. All I want you to do today is to reaffirm to yourself that you will not be denied.
Continue to go for failure.
Continue to show up in the name of achieving your desired result.
Have faith in your ability to get there by understanding this, and by exuding that wonderful word – patience – each and every single day.
It is not for you to determine when the success will show up. It is only for you to determine that by showing up every day and putting one foot in front of the other, having faith in this process and ultimately exuding patience on your way there, that success will be guaranteed.
