The FIRST Day is the WORST Day!

I’m going to share a tip with you that will help you move your career to the next level, and it’s a simple principle – in theory, at least.

Momentum.

The first day of any new task, strategy, or plan is the WORST day. Your goals can feel unreachable, and it’s so easy to take the easy way – you might think to yourself “Hey, I’m doing okay. Why take on extra work, put in extra hours? I’m doing better than the worst people out there – that has to be worth something.”

Well, let me tell you something: if you’re satisfied with that approach to life, you are in the wrong place.

Let me give you an example.

I recently made a decision that I was going to get in better shape and drop a couple of pounds, that’s what I did – but let me tell you, the first day was rough.

But…

After a couple days of work, a couple days of applying myself to what I needed to do to reach MY goals, the rest just seemed to fall into place. Every day got easier with that force of momentum behind me.

Now, if you want to apply this to your career, think of it another way:

Everyone’s heard of the “snowball effect’. Let’s say you’ve got an idea that’s not panning out immediately – think of it as a chunk of ice. What can you do with it? You can toss it away because it’s too much work, say it’s too cold to hang onto and let it melt in your hands. Or you can take a chance, find a hill, and start it rolling.

As you do, it’s going to grow before your eyes. Before you know it, the weight of what YOU’VE created is going to be carrying itself as it gets bigger, even as you push it along.

There’s no harder time to lift your foot off the ground and take that first step than on the FIRST day, but that step is imperative to keep fighting down the road to success.

None of us can afford to be standing still, and there is no momentum without movement.
