Humility
I have a key for you all today, and while it’s a tricky one to find, the doors it unlocks are well worth it. Ready?
The number one key to success is HUMILITY.
That’s right!
It’s imperative that you hear and understand this if you are striving to reach the levels of prosperity you want and deserve.
As an example: I work with a ton of different organizations in my day to day life. I’m focused in the automotive industry at the moment, and I absolutely love getting in front of energetic individuals who are ready to crush life. But there have been a number of situations in which PRIDE appears, and tries to shut things down before they even begin.
I would need about twelve more hands to count on my fingers the number of times I’ve walked into a training session ready to go, ready to show this team all the remarkable tools at their disposal to create insane levels of success, only to notice… Bob isn’t here. I’ll step outside with the manager and ask if he’s sick, or on vacation, or off that day, only to be told “Oh, Bob doesn’t need this. He sells 20 cars a month, so I don’t think it’s a good use of his time.”
WHAT?
You’ve heard me say before – if you’re green, you’re growing, if you’re ripe, you’re rotting.
It never fails to astonish me that someone will so casually disregard a learning opportunity, or the potential to absorb information that will improve their lives.
As another example, I have a number of individuals who work within my organization. I’m the big motivational sales trainer, going out and closing deals left right and center. We’re healthy, life is awesome – this is what they witness.
But even with this being the case, at no point do I become deaf to anything that comes out of their mouths. I’ve had employees who’ve been in my organization less than a month and don’t know what they’re doing yet – but if they’ve got something to say, a suggestion to make, or a new approach they’d like to try, I’m all ears, and this comes back down to that key word I mentioned earlier – humility.
Pride is the ultimate set of earplugs. I operate in the understanding that my twenty years of experience in the business doesn’t mean I have everything figured out. In fact, I operate under the assumption that people who have less than twenty HOURS of experience in the industry might have massive value to offer because they are viewing everything with fresh eyes. It’s imperative that we never, ever believe we know it all.
Every human being on planet earth has something to offer. They have different perspectives, unique ways of approaching and solving challenges, and there are valuable ideas and information just waiting to be absorbed that can serve you in your life and in your career.
Pride is a death sentence in business – and in life.
Stay humble, keep your mind and ears open, and get ready for the next level.
